Jennifer Lausten PT, DPT

Jen Lausten

Jen has been a physical therapist specializing in orthopedics for 25 years. She grew up in South NJ and graduated from University of Scranton and later received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

Her specialties are spine and TMJ dysfunction, but she enjoys treating a variety of all types of orthopedic cases using a biomechanical approach. She finds that most orthopedic injuries that are chronic in nature are related to faulty posture and motor plans that cause undue strain. For this reason, Jen finds patient education to be very important and incorporates it into each session.

She is certified in Functional Movement Screens (FMS), which is used with healthy athletes to find asymmetries that are either caused by mobility problems or a stability/motor control problem. Jen also incorporates the Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), which are a movement based diagnostic system designed to clinically assess 7 fundamental movement patterns in those with known musculoskeletal pain (www.functionalmovement.com). This approach to evaluation allows her to recognize restriction in other regions of the body, which may be related to your issue.

Jen’s biggest goals for your treatment are to keep rehab as FUN and PAINFREE as possible, treat each patient with the most efficient plan, and to educate and empower them to understand their injury and self treatment.

When not at work, she enjoys watching her 4 kids playing sports, reading, and traveling to the Jersey shore in summers (LBI).

Amy Voorhis, PTA, ATC

Amy Voorhis, ATC

Amy grew up here in Leesburg and got her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training from James Madison University. After marrying her high school sweetheart (you may know Cris, he is the Operations Director at Deli South here in the shopping center!), she went back to get her Physical Therapist Assistant Degree from Northern Virginia Community College. Amy has been here at TOPS for 10 years, since she started here as an aide while she was still in college!

Her wide variety of experiences and continuing education help her to treat a very diverse patient load of all ages, impairments, and ability levels. Through her gymnastics background and experience in the ATC capacity at APEX Gymnastics here in Leesburg, she has found a specialty treating gymnasts with both chronic and acute injuries. Amy is also a Star 1 Mad Dogg Athletics, Inc. certified Spinning instructor and has special training from Silver Sneakers in group fitness for older adults. Her athletic training clinical experience at JMU with both Division 1 and high school level athletes make Amy a good fit for athletes of all ability levels.

Amy is certified in Selective Functional Movement Assessment (SFMA), which gives her a good understanding of regional interdependence of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. She uses this knowledge to apply a global treatment approach and assess faulty movement patterns and motor plans, both at a global level and at each specific joint.

If she isn’t here at TOPS, she is probably upside down at APEX, on a bike at CycleLuv, or watching her crazy dog Dude run around at the dog park!
